What Was Here Before

Callum Monteith and Sam Cook

Part of the GSA Summer series, this collaborative show of two GSA students Callum Monteith and Sam Cook, seeks to investigate locality and place, by investigating both historical and current social characteristics of the area in which Civic Room is located. Civic Room is a non-profit gallery within a former British Linen Bank built in 1897 by William Forrest Salmon in the east end of Glasgow.

What was here before
We both mutter simultaneously in our separated subconscious. We are searching for questions and for answers, desperately clutching at any kind of immediately telling matter.”

The GSA Summer Series at Civic Room is supported by the The Glasgow School of Art and Civic Room core sponsors, Oran Mor and Carson & Partners.
